چکیده

There is a high regard for peracetic acid (PAA)-based disinfectants in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) because of the low risk bioaccumulation, fast degradation with neutral residuals and minimal impact on biofilter performance. However, no-observed-effect concentration Atlantic salmon parr unknown. The present study evaluated effect an acute PAA exposure health welfare by evaluating survival, swimming behaviour, appetite histopathological alterations gills skin. Nine experimental RAS units were employed, where each unit was dedicated one (0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, 3.2 6.4 mg/L). Fish exposed to target static system 1 h protocol repeated after 52 recovery. fish survival 100%, 80% 0%, respectively ?1.6, mg/L. behaviour normal ? 1.6 mg/L, whereas it become erratic air gasping ? did not change among different treatment groups. Skin gill pronounced characterized poorer skin condition necrotic lamella. acidic mucous cells density 55% lower mg/L group than 0 group. sub-lethal water pH values observed administration may have played confounding compounding factor toxicity response this In conclusion, current identified be below provided insights into its use as prophylactic strategy RAS. Toxicity PAA-based influenced acidified nature, which can interfere alkalinity systems. Further studies should evaluate consequences long-term parr.

Microcontrollers in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems

Closed-system aquaculture presents a new and expanding commercial opportunity; however, presently there are few profitable commercial operations. Intensive aquaculture systems require a sufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients in temperaturecontrolled water with a means of removing wastes from the system. In properly controlled recirculating aquaculture systems, stocking rates of up to one-hal...

Transcriptional profiling of the parr-smolt transformation in Atlantic salmon.

The parr-smolt transformation in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) is a complex developmental process that culminates in the ability to migrate to and live in seawater. We used GRASP 16K cDNA microarrays to identify genes that are differentially expressed in the liver, gill, hypothalamus, pituitary, and olfactory rosettes of smolts compared to parr. Smolts had higher levels of gill Na(+)/K(+)-ATPas...

Atlantic salmon smolts are more responsive to an acute handling and confinement stress than parr

Atlantic salmon parr and smolts reared under a natural temperature and photoperiod regime were subjected to an acute handling and confinement stress in early May. Smolts had a mean plasma cortisol concentration of 10 ngrml before stress and 242 ngrml 3 h after initiation of stress which returned to pre-stress levels within 8 h. Parr had a plasma cortisol concentration of 4 ngrml prior to stress...

The Bioeconomics of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems Richard

The goal of this study was to produce a detailed aquaculture production model incorporating constraints unique to closed system culture and to conduct a formal economic analysis of closed system operation. Results generated by this model indicate that less than perfect management ability can eliminate the normal advantages associated with using high protein feed. While higher protein levels pro...
